The Construction!Kit's components are based on typical laboratory standards: the assembly platform has the size of a microplate, the modules that of a microscope slide. Up to four modules may be combined with each other in one such platform. All slides are made of cyclo-olefin coplymer (COC), which combines good optical properties with biocompatibility and good chemical resistance to most acids and bases. A set of connectors is available which allows to connect standard tubes or typical laboratory tools such as pipettes or syringes to the fluid ports on top of the slide. The Microfluidic Construction!Kit - a quick access The Construction!Kit includes a platform to combine different slides, several SnakeMixer and MicroSplitter slides, a TwinPump slide as well as the electronic control unit. A variety of connectors allow to flexibly interconnect the modules (e.g. for pumping or mixing) or to link them to outside equipment. The ensuing microfluidic system can now be tested and consecutively improved by replacing a given element by a better suited one. The components of the Construction!Kits in detail
SnakeMix Slide The mixing principle is quite simple: above a critical flow velocity a succession of serpentines leads to eddies. As a consequence, the two liquid streams interpenetrate and mix after a short distance. Due to its characteristic channel structure, this product was named Snake-Mixer. The Snake-Mixer can easily be customized and produced in large numbers. MicroSplit Slide TwinPump Slide That doubled pump function is especially advantageous in combination with our SnakeMix or MicroSplit Slides. The flow rate of each pump is controlled by the frequency of the piezo actuator. To this end the twin pump slide is distributed in conjunction with a specially adapted electronic control unit, the EDP0704.
