Sophion Bioscience A/S (>>)
Sophion Bioscience A/S is a company situated nearby Copenhagen, Denmark, which "is committed to providing advanced products and integrated solutions for high-throughput ion channel characterization of living cells."
Sophion's novel QPatch system, which is sold to the pharmaceutical industry, allows automated and parallel ion channel screening. To this end, a hybrid microfluidic carrier system is required, which fulfills three different functions. Firstly, it houses 16 microchips on which the measurements are performed. Secondly, it provides the microfluidics needed to make the device work. And thirdly, it acts as interface between the microstructures and the screening apparatus. This includes both electric and fluidic connections.
“We are truly grateful for the support we received from thinXXS in the development and optimization of the QPlates. Their expertise in microfluidics, micromolding, and microassembly was a vital contribution to the success we have since we began shipping the QPatch system.” (Torsten Freltoft, CEO).

Pria Diagnostics LLC (>>)
Pria Diagnostics LLC, based in California, "is a research and development company specializing in advanced disposable medical diagnostics." The company particularly combines microfluidics with fluorescence-based detection in order to arrive at single unit diagnostic tests which allow highly specific analysis at the cellular level. Their lead product, Element™, "is a male fertility screening device designed for the over-the-counter (OTC) market."
The novel device comes as a great relief for couples that have tried unsuccessfully to conceive and that shun to consult professional help due to the costs involved or psychologically motivated inhibitions. In this situation, Element™ permits "men to check their fertility with a simple device that can be used in the privacy of their home without sacrificing the accuracy of analysis."
As a leader in the design and production of micromolded devices, Pria approached thinXXS for the development and subsequent supply of the microfluidic component of Element™.
INNOMEDIC GmbH (>>)
INNOMEDIC GmbH is situated in Herxheim in southwest Germany and was founded "with the purpose of developing, producing, and distributing medical robots and surgical assistance systems. INNOMOTIONTM is worlds' first medical assistance system that can be used to assist in percutaneous interventions in combination with imaging systems (MRI, CT)."
In order to control the motion of the system, a set of specially adapted sensors had to be developed. Due to the high electric and magnetic fields inside an mri scanner, these sensors contain neither electronics nor any ferromagnetic materials. Instead, the sensor information is transmitted optically to the outside control system.
